"Be the change you want to see in the world"
--Mahatma Gandhi

Day after day we are bombarded with images of doom and gloom.  How do we stop the madness?  First of all, turn off your TV. Play with your kids, grandkids or your dog.  Give your spouse or S.O. a backrub, or better yet, ask them for one ;)
Smile at a random stranger.  Give the guy on the freeway who cut you off the benefit of the doubt.  Smile at him too!  Maybe he's got a sick kid at home, or he just lost his job. You never know...

But one of the very best things you can do is GET INVOLVED, and GIVE FROM THE HEART.  I am listing a number of charities and causes that I support. If you are moved to support one or more of them, please click on the links below.   Maybe you don't feel drawn to the same causes that I am, and that's ok.  Think of the people and issues that you feel strongly about, and look for organizations that support them.  A good place to do your research is
Charity Navigator.  They rate charities on their efficiency (very important - this is how much of your contributions actually go to the cause as opposed to overhead costs), financial health and organizational capacity.

Don't have much money to give? Then give time. There are many worthy organizations in your community that need a hand.  Or you could do something as simple as taking your elderly neighbor to her appointment or picking up her groceries.   If you need ideas, go to
Volunteer Match for hundreds of opportunities in your local area.

The Law of Attraction states that when we give with a grateful heart, whatever we give comes back multiplied. I found this to be very true in my life.  So start giving, but also be prepared to receive!

Another option for those without deep pockets:  go to the Hunger Site and give free food. Click every day, and while you are there you can also support several other good causes.  They also have cool stuff in their stores and every purchase helps more!

Sierra Club

Finca International

Animal Welfare Institute
Reducing the sum total of pain and fear inflicted on animals by humans.

Make-A-Wish Foundation International

This is a cool example of someone who saw the movie "The Secret" and manifested something really awesome: Spryte Loriano decided she wanted to raise enough money to feed at least 3 million children in 33 days.  Her site www.feed333.org has become an overnight viral success!
